When car designers within modular platforms can easily be shared between cars, it saves automakers money and time when manufacturing new vehicles.

Although putting the same kind of frame under many cars meant they had to have the same size, modular platforms can be made shorter or longer based on what an automaker plans to build.

It is not the same as ‘badge engineering,’ where automakers take a car and add different styling and trim cues to create new others. Perfect examples are GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado.
