A closer look at the fourth generation Mercedes C-Class

Those in the market for a luxury executive vehicle need look no further than the latest Mercedes-Benz C-Class. This class leader has built on the success of its predecessor, but improved in a handful of areas to ensure that it stays ahead of the pack. It is the perfect combination of style, comfort, efficiency and safety.

The executive car market is a fiercely competitive one. There are a handful of luxury automobiles that lead this pack, but at the forefront of this is the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. The German manufacturer first unveiled this automobile in 1993, and it is now in its fourth generation. Other brands have stepped up their game, so Mercedes had to make sure that this fourth generation is the best yet. It faces tough competition from BMW 3 Series and the Audi A4.

Exterior

Interior

The interior is one of the key selling points and major upgrades. Taking inspiration from the S-Class limousine range, the C-Class boasts upmarket materials, ample leg room in the front and a beautifully designed dashboard.

Standard equipment includes cruise control, Bluetooth and a DAV radio, while some trim levels come with heated seats, satellite navigation and LED headlamps. All these features ensure that it is extremely comfortable inside, but you can even enhance this with the optional Airmatic air suspension.

Performance

An executive car should be much more than just comfort and style; it should also have a thrilling performance. The new C-Class does not disappoint with a powerful performance and responsive handling. This is mainly due to the fact that it is an impressive 100kg lighter than its predecessor.

Economy

The cheap running costs are another reason that many people are in the market for a new Mercedes C Class second hand. Fuel economy is up by 20% with the C 200d returning 72.4 MPG and 101g/km, while the C 220d returns 70.6 MPG and 103 g/km. There are also two hybrid models available – one returns 78.5 MPG and 94 g/km on 17-inch wheels, while the terrific C 350e plug-in hybrid boasts 134.5 MPG and emissions between 48 and 53 g/km. This means that it is exempt from road tax and the London congestion charge.

Safety

As with all Mercedes, the latest C-Class contains all of the most recent safety technology. It earned a five-star Euro NCAP crash test rating, which will be reassuring to many motorists.

Overall, the fourth generation Mercedes C-Class is a brilliant executive automobile and certainly lives up to the German manufacturer’s high reputation.
